You were a good student in high school - you studied hard and earned good grades, but the transition to college or higher education is harder than you expected. Don’t worry - here is a guide to help you be a better student.
There are many types of study assistance programmes available to art school students. But in order to become a better student, you must first identify both your strengths and weaknesses. Take a survey of your recent academic performance. In which areas do you excel? In which areas do you think that you need help? For example, do you do well in your drawing and painting classes, but really struggle with the required reading for your English classes? Do you love the drafting and math classes, but hate writing essays? Recognising the academic areas in which you need help will help you learn how to be a better student.
If you need help in specific classes that you are taking, try talking to the instructor. Many teachers and professors would be more than willing to make extra time to work with you on the areas of the courses that you need help. If they can’t make time for you because of their own course load, then they will be happy to recommend some learning or academic resources that you may find useful. Likewise, many universities and institutes run learning facilities like math or writing labs. These are usually run on a first-come, first-served basis and you will have the chance to work one-to-one, with an instructor or graduate student. These labs are a very popular way to get free tutoring which focuses on your individual needs.
You also have the option to hire a personal tutor. Always a popular choice, a personal tutor can help you achieve your individual academic goals. Unfortunately, however, tutors can be rather expensive, but they are usually well worth the money.
There are many study assistance options available. All you have to do is to choose the path that is best for you.
Earning your art degree is an important step in your professional life. It takes commitment and dedication, but with some planning and preparation, you can succeed at art school. But what does it take to be a good student? Here are some tips to help you succeed at school.
If you really want to do well at school, then you should make sure that you register for the course that you want to do. This may sound obvious, but many students feel compelled to earn a degree that their parents want them to earn, or perhaps even feel pressured by friends to enrol in a degree programme that’s cool or trendy. In order to truly succeed at college, you need to be investing in the future that you want for yourself. College studies are difficult enough, without having to endure years of coursework for a degree in a profession that’s not right for you.
You should also try to develop your time management skills, as well. You will need to learn to balance a variety of different tasks, such as completing homework assignments, attending classes and studying for exams, while allowing for an active social life. College is hectic and stressful, and in order for you to complete all of your goals, you need to make sure that you have a schedule that you can live with.
Finally, in order to be a good student, you need to be able to successfully deal with the stresses and strains of everyday college life, which can range from dealing with having to complete several different art projects with the same deadline, to trying to find time to study for mid-terms, when you’re working part-time to help pay your tuition. Remember to take time for yourself each day, so that you can unwind and relax. Eating a balanced diet and daily exercise are essential to combating stress.
You can be a successful art student. All it takes is planning and proper preparation.
