Graphic design jobs can be found in a variety of industries, thanks in part to the real estate boom over the last decade. Homeowners and commercial builders alike are taking advantage of the tools and expertise of graphic designers to develop trends and push the envelope of building design.
Graphic design is no longer just about print, advertising, or even the internet. Every newly designed house—indeed, any construction project—needs a graphic designer. Graphic designers possess training in the software and special planning tools crucial to a variety of industries.
Builders Need Designers’ Skills
“Graphic design has been a major catalyst in showoff designs settling into our homes,” reads an article in a New Jersey newspaper. “Designers and architects… have pushed the envelope of creativity. Computer-aided design has contributed to the boomlet.”
Graphic designers will find significant demand for their 3D, CAD, and spatial planning software skills. For this reason, most graphic design degree programs include extensive training in 3D and other modeling software.
A Variety of Graphic Design Jobs
Graphic designers in today’s marketplace could find themselves working on anything from a mall to a cruise ship. For example, the graphic and multimedia design firm Brick House Multimedia recently landed several notable graphic design jobs, including the following:
- Cruise ship design
- Fairground design
- Residential home design
The industry has changed, and a graphic design career can start almost anywhere. What hasn’t changed is the need for the job skills offered by graphic design degree programs.
